Ryder Tam is a tall palm tree from Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a Chinese-American actor, improviser, comedian, and occasional aerospace engineer.
Current cast member of Sunday Company at The Groundlings, improv performer/instructor at Outside In Theater (improvised film noir), and Saturday Night Live Diversity Scholarship Award Winner.

Hi! I’m Ryder Tam
Ryder is an actor, improviser, and comedian based in Los Angeles. He currently performs at The Groundlings as a member of the Sunday Company, where he was also a Saturday Night Live Diversity Scholarship Award Winner. Ryder is a former artistic director of Pack Theater in Hollywood, where he created the original shows Science Night Live (real scientists do comedy) and The Fright Society (improvised horror). He writes and performs sketch and improv weekly, and created the sketch comedy channel TVunscripted and the original shows Dungeons & Dragons Unscripted, and Everyone Dies at the End (improvised film noir), currently with Outside In Theater.
He headlined at the Austin Sketch Festival, Detroit Improv Festival, and Trill Comedy Festival, and has performed at dozens of other comedy festivals, including internationally at Improfest Sweden and Improv Fest Ireland. Ryder has been an improv instructor for Improv Utopia, Rise Comedy, and Ledge Theater, and has taught workshops for theaters all around the world, including in Dublin, Los Angeles, San Diego, Baltimore, Denver, Colorado Springs, Greensboro, and Phoenix.
Ryder trained at Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, iO Chicago, Second City, Pack Theater, WGIS and Howard Fine Acting Studio.
Education:
Ryder holds a Masters in Business Administration from University of Colorado, where he also graduated summa cum laude from the Honors Mechanical Engineering program. He minored in aerospace engineering, math, and theatre.
Concurrently, he competed on the track and cross country teams, representing UCCS at the National XC Championships. He was the first men’s cross country athlete in school history to earn NCAA DII Academic All American honors, and was selected as the RMAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Work:
Prior to pursuing comedy, Ryder worked for Lockheed Martin as a Senior Guidance Navigation and Control Engineer. He launched three satellites of the AEHF MILSTAR constellation, and supported the U.S. Space Force as a contractor specializing in satellite collision avoidance, repositioning, and orbit analytics. Fun fact: there is a polaroid picture of him in space!
